Summer Reading

If you have any books you think everyone MUST read, please post it to this blog or let Mrs. Miner or Amy know so we can get a list together to hand out to students. Please let us know what grade/age level this book suggestion would be best for. Just think of all the wonderful hours you can spend reading this summer!

Book Clubs

The grade school is getting into the book club act by meeting over lunch for four weeks. Sixteen second grade students have been meeting to read and discuss Tornado by Betsy Byars. We have also read poetry and the last week we will do puppet skits.
Twelve third graders have been reading Gooney Bird Greene by Lois Lowry. Next week (the last week) we will play Monopoly because Gooney Bird played Monopoly just before she had to find Napoleon and go to the Palace.
After the second grade and third grade book clubs are finished, fourth and fifth graders will start book clubs over lunch. Twelve fourth graders will read Boys Start the War by Phyllis Naylor and twelve fifth graders will read Shiloh by Phyllis Naylor.
This has been a pilot program and it has been really fun. Next year we will start in September and offer a book club to grades first through sixth, hopefully two times for each grade within the school year.
